new year, new goals

While I don't necessarily believe in New Year's resolutions per se (I make my own resolutions, regardless of date), there have been a few matters I've been meaning to pay more attention to in 2008:

1) I just re-upped my membership at City Health- for $75, you get a year's access to swimming pools, weights, aerobic equipment and other facilities. Not the most upscale of facilities, but it'll help me exercise more regularly, at least until I can afford something better (see below).

2) I'm taking a sketch pad up to the library on 42nd and 5th (the one with the lions), so as to do some work on drawing some of the decorative stonework they have there. I rarely sketch- I've done one finished drawing in the last ten years- but I find that sketching helps me concentrate on composition and detailing, in ways that will help my photography. (Getting a new digital camera, and doing more work with same, are also among my goals for this year, as my camera met with an unfortunate accident.)

3) I've produced several pages on the new Harry Potter chapter for the first time in- I don't want to check and see how long it's been *sigh*. Anyway, I've been writing on that, and also working up the next chapter for the Albus Severus story (Making up seven years' worth of three houses' worth of kids, including backstories? Takes a long time.) Beyond those, I also have an original idea I'm noodling around- nothing I'm ready to produce copy for, but enough to get started on world building. It's caught my interest, at least, which is definitely a good thing.

...and beyond all of those, I have an interview on Wednesday for a copy editing position. It's at a job where I've been freelancing for a while; the supervisor there has known and liked my work for a few years now- we worked together at another agency- and this is actually an HR interview. Wish me luck!

[livejournal.com profile] endogenousardor, you are missed

When I was looking at the LJ birthday reminder list recently, it showed me a name I hadn't thought of in a while. [livejournal.com profile] endogenousardor was an early friend of mine on LJ; we had many spirited AIM debates that ranged from silly, geeky goofing around, to serious philisophical discussions. He was a passionate, eloquent man; I valued our debates tremendously. Endo wound up wrestling with some rather serious personal problems; in the end, he withdrew from LJ; when I contacted some RL friends of his, they said that he had fallen out of touch with them, as well. Five years on- no word. I wish there was something I could do; he was- is- a good person and an intelligent one; LJ is much the poorer without his presence.

Be well, P.
