strange lifeforms

This is a fascinating article about moray eels; it seems that they have a second (pharyngeal) pair of jaws, which they store in their throats; once they seize prey in their outer jaws, the pharyngeal jaws extend, and help draw prey into the esophagus to be devoured.
(In unrelated news, I am now the proud uncle to five kittens- two calico, three mostly white. This was an unexpected blessed event, as my apartment mate didn't know Mamma cat was pregnant when she agreed to take care of her. The previous owner has yet to answer phone calls asking when she's going to come pick up her cat + five, too. Still, kittens.)
