Happy birthday,
magnetgirl!
Sep. 2nd, 2007 01:08 pmI went out to Coney Island yesterday, for the first time this year that didn't involve riding out there on my bike; instead, I was attending a birthday party for the all-around amazing
magnetgirl (yay!), which involved picnicing, walking along the boardwalk, and hitting a few rides. At one point, we all found ourselves on the Cyclone, one of NYC's most famous landmarks (there aren't many roller coasters in the National Register of Historic Places); it's an eighty-year-old wooden coaster, which means that as the roller coaster drops, there's a
B-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-T!
sound, with attendant shaking. It's definitely a unique experience- one of those New York City-specific things I've been meaning to do ever since I moved here. Then we went and sat on the beach, and I looked out at the striations of orange and blue and tan at the horizon, and chatted with various folks, and a good time was had by all. You're a wonderful hostess, MG!
[In other news, I'm not actually going to take an HP prompt that reads, "Professor Trelawney has a secret life as either a highway robber or a ninja superhero," am I? (Not with three projects already in the fire, I'm not. Still... she could bound around, demanding lupins and gold from all she encounters; legends would grow around the deadly accuracy of her skull-shattering crystal spheres. They would call her... The Hurler!)]
