Rose's Turn is closing
Jul. 15th, 2007 11:06 amLast night, I found out that Rose’s Turn, the piano bar I’ve been going to (and writing about here) for the last five years, will be closing at the end of the month. It’s still difficult to formulate a coherent response to this; barely a week over the last five years has gone by that I haven’t stopped by to see people, to request a favorite song, or to occasionally sing myself. I wrote as a comment in someone else’s LJ to the effect that I suspected that the next few weeks will be difficult ones, yet full of joy. I plan to do my best to make the latter part come true.
(Just yesterday, in Washington Square Park, I ran into Chuck, a saxophone player I met at Rose's Turn. He was playing with a group of guitar-strumming singers; when he saw me, he pointed, and I walked over. There was a brief break; he and I were talking... and the other singers broke into "Take Me Home, Country Roads." Chuck looked at each other, and laughed- he's heard me do that song at Rose's more times than I can count- and I joined in, and stayed with them for a few more munbers; when I left, each of the guitar players shook my hand. One tiny moments, out of thousands, that I have to thank Rose's for.)
