Although this story technically takes place in the same ficton as the rest of my Harry Potter story, it is set much earlier, at the end of the 1954 Hogwarts school year; it was written for the June Mentors Challenge at [livejournal.com profile] omniocular. (The post linked to includes a list of prompts, and posting guidelines for nonmembers, should anyone be interested.) No spoilers or warnings; it involves a conversation between new appointee Albus Dumbledore, and the departing former Headmaster, Armando Dippet (from the Chamber of Secrets diary memory).

I'm just back from a lovely event at Marble Cemetery, in the East Village. People were playing various musical instruments, and dancing around (at one point, one of the dancers was being chased by a horde of children; I had something of a Suddenly, Last Summer moment), and taking pictures (one guy had a working Bell & Howell!). It was a lovely chance to catch up with people (I even saw Julie from the old club scene, which surprised me), and talk the geek talk; we wound up repairing to Yaffa, for food and conversation. Then home, to see rain clouds illuminated by flashes of lightning. Before that, I was working an all-night last-minute booking; roughly four hours' work interspersed with working on Harry Potter fic (thank you to everyone who commented on the last one, by the way!); it's not often that I make a month's rent in a night (woo, living in a shoebox in Williamsburg!). An absolutely lovely afternoon; now, I'm exhausted; and so, as Pepys would say, to bed.
