Jun. 1st, 2007 09:31 amI'm currently at a proofreading job... in Pennsylvania. I've never had a job so far from Manhattan; I worked for the Manhattan branch of this company once, a few months ago, and apparently made enough fo an impression that when they needed a proofreader- stat!- my name came up. They even sent a car for me; happily, it seems that I can bill my transit time (roughly an hour and a half each way). I'll need it; according to my dentist (thank you again for the recommendation,
redbird; thanks also to everyone else who suggested someone), I have two teeth in urgent need of root canal. (He had a Renoir reproduction on the wall facing my chair; an excellent choice, as I found the dappled sunlight and muted colors quite soothing.) Between this and the LJ jackassery, this week has definitely been wearing the jackboots of stompy; I'm quite looking forward to getting home, so that I can unwind with some HP writing- genocide and werewolves, and all.

Jun. 1st, 2007 09:39 amOne other thing: no matter how brilliant a job he turns out to have done with Golden Compass (granted that the casting generally pleases me; the pics I've seen look good), there's something about hearing that the director of American Pie has been hired for the Elric movie that can only make me flinch. (My own choice? David Lynch; failing that, either Ridley Scott or David Fincher.)

Jun. 1st, 2007 01:59 pmNewtown, Pennsylvania is a very nice place to be spending my Friday. The company I'm working at is a pleasant, informal place; I just got some positive feedback for a good catch in a job (I queried why a D.C. hotel would have a "Capital" ballroom); the weather is gorgeous. I took a walk down the main street earlier, when buying lunch; there's a store called "The Giving Tree", which pleases me. Also, there's a very good used books/music store; I bought the U2 greatest hits CD that has "All I Want is You" on it, (thanks,
oceanic!) and found, to my delight, a copy of Lloyd Alexander's Time Cat, which I've not read in over twenty-five years. (I also found a tie-in book to Alex Cox's film Walker- must order the Joe Strummer soundtrack album- and all three volumes of Danny Peary's Cult Movies series, which also delighted me.)
