Rose's Turn
May. 16th, 2007 10:47 amI had a wonderful time last night (
leopard_lady, great to see you!) at Rose's Turn, the (main) piano bar in Greenwhich Village that I frequent. That's scarcely unusual in and of itself; the thing is... the "Rose's Turn" sign is gone from the front of the bar. (For a second, when I was walking up to the building, I was having confused thoughts about vandalism.) I can remember seeing that sign long, long before I ever went inside; even when I as utterly ignorant of the piano bar culture, the Sondheim reference always made me smile; I told myself that one day I'd check it out, and one day, I did. Allegedly (hard information is scarce) the bar's owner may have sold the bar; it may or may not be reopening under new management; it may close... no one I spoke to could say for certain. It's hard to put my reaction into words- I've been going there for almost as long as this journal has existed; I've met more people there, and had more adventures, and felt more sheer joy there than at any place I can think of. I don't want to speculate as to how this may wind up; instead, to everyone who's helped make the last five years such a wonderful, magical, joyful time: thank you.
