First adventure: I've just registered for the Five Boro Bike Tour, a 43-mile bike ride around the city which is happening this weekend. I've been doing a few practice rides; time to see just how much the winter took out of me, before heading off to a steak dinner at Peter Luger's with my Dad, who'll be in town that day.

Second adventure: When I started going to piano bars, I felt as though I should sing something (although my memory for lyrics has always been atrocious.) I used to do "Take Me Home, Country Roads," with Robbie, the genius accompaniest; I did it so often that people who went there then tell me that they still associate that song with me. I stopped performing it when he left, and fairly well stopped singing altogther- much like skydiving, singing in public takes regular practice, to help one build up one's store of courage. Now, I've begun singing again, tentatively- not "Country Roads" (that song isn't the same for me without Robbie), but a U2 song, called "All I Want is You." (It's off of a soundtrack; I don't believe it's on any of their albums.) I did it for the first time last night, nervously holding a lyric sheet- and it actually went fairly well. (Greg, the pianist I was singing with, actually turned to me near the end of the song and said, off-mike, "Wow- this is really going well!"; I was smiling so much, I could barely finish the song.) So, yeah; I seem to be winning my way past those out-of-practice nerves, and looking for more songs that fit into my most comfortable range (a light baritone.) I'd forgotten how much fun this is :)
