Freddie Francis, RIP

The Oscar-winning cinematographer and director Freddie Francis (he shot Glory, Dune, Return to Oz, and The Elephant Man, among many other films) has passed away at 89, following complications from a stroke. (I have a very strong memory of being so struck by his photography for The Elephant Man that I actually made a point of looking up the name and credits of the cinematographer; it was very possibly the first time I ever specifically researched a filmmaker's credit.) Rest in peace, mister Francis.
