My nerves are oddly ajitter today. Last night, I decided to enjoy the unseasonably warm weather by going for a bike ride; I wound up wiping out and landing in almost exactly the manner in which I broke an arm, more than twenty-five years ago. No harm done, save for mild abrasions (I'm glad I was wearing a helmet; then again, I always do), but the near-miss injury had me tense. My confidence was rattled to the point that I decided to walk the bike the last few bocks home; I was walking past a dark flight of steps- when some guy I hadn't seen suddenly spoke into his cell phone right by my ear, scaring the willies out of me. Home; tea; bed. Now, I hear a parade passing by my window; I suspect that this means it's time to get out of bed, and make my way to Park Slope. Wish me luck.

In response to the blaringly loud marching band outside my window (which has just segued into, gods help me, "Anchors Aweigh"), I am currently playing the Berliner Philharmoniker/Herbert von Karajan CD of Don Giovanni at maximum volume. One would think that this would result in a fascinating blend of cultures and sounds that would utterly negate the urge to set up a kettle of boiling pitch in my windowframe (did I mention that they're passing right outside my window?); alas, no.
