It’s been a quiet day so far, largely because I’m stuck here, waiting for a much-needed package to arrive. So, to kill the time, I’m sharing a few of the more interesting things I’ve found on the Internet of late...
From the “Cognitive dissonance” department, there’s an
excerpt from the
Joan Rivers Show... with musical guests, Husker Du(!)
I don’t care how good his references are, I’m still not going to hire the
Cylon babysitter! I found this while I was looking for the
original lead-in for the 1978 show. I’d always thought that the theme was composed by John Williams; however, a quick stroll through IMDB tells me that it was actually composed by Stu Phillips, who also did the themes for
Knight Rider and
Buck Rogers, among others. (And if I were on the
Galactica’s crew, I’d be a little worried that the narration for the lead-in was being spoken by
Count Iblis.)
(Also, so far as
real cognitive dissonance goes, there’s a re-edit of battle footage from the new
Galactica, re-edited to Kenny Loggins’ “Highway to the Danger Zone”, from the
Top Gun soundtrack floating around YouTube; I’ll spare you that one, though.)
Next, a touching tribute to those who teach...
Klingon.
Every once in a while, the Internet turns up something that truly astounds me;
this is definitely one of those times- the original Edison production of
Frankenstein from 1910, with Charles Ogle as the monster. (Thanks to
nihilistic_kid, who posted the original link to this. Man… I swear, someday, I’m gonna find the uncut
Greed, I tell you...
From animator Don Hertzfeldt comes
Rejected, an Oscar-nominated short film. (Please note that some of the vignettes are rather gory, in a cartoon way.) It purports to be a series of promo segments for the (non-existent) Family Learning Channel; it’s got some of the most brilliantly odd, off-kilter humor I’ve ever seen.
And, so far as brilliantly odd goes,
this poll by
xylodemon, concerning the possible plot twists for Harry Potter #7, is hilarious. (Contains spoilers for the rest of the series, especially
Half-Blood Prince.)
Last, but never least (and just in time for PotC:
Dead Man’s Chest):
Pyrats, courtesy of
copperbadge. Alas, it’s
not a trailer for an animated feature; quoth the FAQ page:
"Pyrats" is an animated short film made by 5 french students from the animation school "Gobelins l'école de l'image" in Paris, France.
It was made as an opening short done for the Annecy 2006 international animation festival. The movie was completed in 7 months (including screenplay, storyboard and designs). The technique is basically 2D traditional animation with some scenes helped by 3D and flash.Enjoy!
