various and sundry
Dec. 16th, 2005 06:03 pm1) Nothing profound to say today (other than that I'm relieved that the trains are still running for the moment; not profound, but surely heartfelt), hence, this numbered list, as a change from bullets.
2) Had a "Eureka!" moment when I realized that various small checks I've been accruing from various one-day gigs, but have been worrying about cashing lest it somehow FUBAR my unemployment, are now depositable; amounts to quite the (well-timed) tidy sum.
3) I'm heading off to DC to see my best friend, his lady love, and (one hopes) at least one or two others from my flist; will be spending my 37th birthday- Monday the 19th- there, in accordance with my recent tradition of traveling for my birthday (2003 being the Grand Canyon; 2004, Seattle.) Man- remember the days when I didn't travel at all?
4) The companion book to the Narnia movie includes a sketch Georgie Henley did of James McAvoy as Faun Tumnus; it looks like the drawings my sister's kids do *wibble* (And I have to say- James McAvoy's performance simply gets better the second time around. Here, Faun Tumnus- have a hug and a Lifesaver.)
5) Added a line to the last installment of the (Book 6 spoiler-laden) Harry Potter story, in which Scrimgeour estimates that there are currently at least fifty active Death Eaters. Fred, spending hours on end looking up Romanian curse words, coming up with a (somewhat) rational basis for the currency and such are all very well- but it helps if you, err, remember to, err, get all that into the actual story.
6) You know- if I tell you that I spent part of last night watching an umbrella play the piano while a waitress flicked water at it through a straw, and much of the rest bending small bendy figurines into configurations the manufacturer would not endorse, most of you will wonder if I'm running a fever, while about half-a-dozen will simply say, "Ahh- piano bar." (And happy birthday on the 18th, Robbie!)
