moving or, The Expotition
Mar. 28th, 2005 04:34 pmSample dialogue from today: "Just remember- there is no I in team, but there is an E-A-T and an M-E."
Just sitting down at work, after a brisk day of helping
roadnotes and
baldanders move out of their apartment. It turned out that I was the only one of us with a valid driver's license, which meant driving a van (with no working defogger, and windshield wipers such that I had to manually hold the on/off knob in position)(this in pouring, cold rain)(thank you so much, rental agency; the rear door's sticking open in the rain was a delight, as well)(did I mention that I haven't been behind the wheel in the city in almost ten years?), which was actually rather exciting, in a good way. From there, things moved well; Roadnotes' nephew Franklin, our friend Chuck from piano bar, and baldanders' coworkers Ed and Matt were helping, and a mighty crew they were- we finished almost an hour ahead of my best guesstimate, thereby enabling me to make it to work on time. (I'm sure Roadnotes will tell you I was the one declaiming "We're alive- my God, we're alive!" upon driving the defoggerless van back to the rental place, but so far as I'm concerned, she was too busy prying her fingernails out of the passenger seat to pay proper attention, and her testimony can be safely discounted.) A good day's work, with an absolutely sterling crew (and a steak dinner waiting for me to collect same), and a steaming cup of coffee on my desk at the end; not a bad day, not at all. Glad I could help, guys :)
