"You have reached the office of Dr. N----. The office is now closed; the office will be closed for the week of Monday, March 31st through Friday, April 4th. The office will be open Monday, April 7th after 10:30..."

Aargh. Conversely, I went to the NYU medical center for two sets of X-rays (possible hairline fracture in one finger; chest X-ray pertaining to a persistent low-level cough) and was done and out in an hour flat. Finishing packing for DC; couldn't find a high ASA color stock I wanted, but the hi-con is tucked into my backpack, as are Amtrak tickets.

That aside, the ban on smoking in bars is proving every bit as disastrous as I'd feared. Trish, the bartender at the Thirsty Scholar, tells me that her business has been cut roughly in half since the ban- even nearby stores are closing earlier. (There were all of three people there when I walked in; usually, there would be at least five or six. As nice as it is not to have cigarette smoke on my clothing, this is going to prove every bit as useful as, say, a massive tax cut. Aargh, indeed.)

I've never encountered [livejournal.com profile] porcinea online, never seen her LJ user name, never read one of her posts. As of now, though, she has an honored place on my friends list. Read this, to see how someone I've never met could teach me a new lesson about actions of moral necessity (the post includes its own explanation.)

(and thanks to [livejournal.com profile] rmjwell for linking to this.)
