-made it to a friend's Martin Luther King soul food brunch at Middle Collegiate Church on 7th and 2nd which I've been trying to attend annually since 1995; my delight at his considerable culinary skill was vastly overshadowed by my mixed relief and disbel ief at the notion that I was, in fact, there.
-Heard him the other night at Parkside Lounge. He did a song that had me near tears- a montage of the phone conversations of passengers on the various planes on 9/11, using "I love you" as a rhythmic phrase at the end of lines to give the song an added desparate, haunted intensity. (Note, though, that this song may well not be representative of his work as a whole, as my other favorite song of his concerned the attempts of Aquaman from the Super Friends to pick up women, with so many other more powerful super heroes around.)
-Missed arisia due to losing out on my Massachusetts crash spot at the last moment- poop...
