I wonder if they were thinking of those scenes in T2 where Robert Patrick's T1000 gets peppered and keeps on going? Still, it makes complete sense.

And I guess the fact that Kevlar-plus-goo provides similar protection for less overall weight than Kevlar alone doesn't hurt... also, wonder what other applications shear-thickening liquid could have? (Only *so* many flak-jackets you can make.)
